About Microbiology Department
Sahyadri Science College is a constituent college of Kuvempu University. Department of Microbiology was established in the year 1996 with 50 students intake, at present we have 150 students. Department has well experienced teaching faculties, who are also good at the diverse field of microbiological research with a vision of inculcating the knowledge of Microbiology to undergraduate students, and guiding PhD scholars. Department has well-established laboratories and is also equipped with basic and advanced instrumentation facilities to carryout practical's as well as research activities. Department of microbiology is mainly offering under graduate courses with two different combinations viz CZM (Chemistry, Zoology, Microbiology) and CBM (Chemistry, Botany, Microbiology).
Department of Microbiology has received research funding for major as well as minor research projects (MRP) from UGC (GOI) and VGST (GOK). In initial days,the department had also offered vocational course in Industrial Microbiology at under graduate level, which helped the students to understand industrial application of microorganisms for human welfare. Department also received funding from UGC to carryout add-on in "Laboratory Technicians "and "Application of Bioinstrumentation in Clinical Laboratories" to obtain diploma / certificate and advance diploma certificate which helped degree students to join industries, institutes and clinical laboratories. Department is conducting regularly state and national level seminars /symposiums/ and inviting resource persons in the field of Microbiology to make our students well aware of current trends in Microbiology. Department has been involving in community outreach pragramme in association with local NGO's for the benefit of rural population and school children's and making them aware of importance of microbiology in day to day life.
