Rovers and Rangers Units

Rover & Ranger is universally recognized youth movement inculcate the good manners and ideals of disciplined living. Rovering / Rangering is the senior wing of Scouting and Guiding. The concept of Rovers and Rangers was introduced by Sir Robert Baden Powell in August 1918. Student volunteers with service motive can join in Rovers' crew and Rangers team. The Rovers and Rangers Unit at Sahyadri Science college began functioning from 27th September 2016. The inauguration ceremony was held on 27th September 2016, by the chief guest Dr. B C Gowder Shivannavar, Principal, Sahyadri Arts College, Shimoga. The Inauguration programme was presided by Smt.Shakunthala, principal, Sahyadri Science College, Shimoga. Any regular student of College/ University between the age group of 16-25 years can be enlisted as Rover (Boy)/ Ranger (Girl). A unit consists of 24 Rovers called Rover crew and 24 Rangers called ranger team. Rovering/Rangering is a uniformed activity and aiming To create a better World.

Objectives

  • 1. The purpose of Ranger and Rovers is to help students achieve a holistic development in life and promote the cause of national unity and integration in its members.
  • 2. Rangers and Rovers strive hard to achieve the prime objective of Bharat Scout & Guide to render their service for the betterment of Society and their own personality.
  • 23. To Develop Character, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.

Functioning and Activities

A rangers and Rovers work is dynamic and covers six key areas; patrolling, monitoring wildlife, combating poaching, engaging local communities, managing fires and assisting with tourism.
