About Zoology Department

Department of zoology has its origin in 1957 with the commencement of graduate course of degree college with limited number of faculty and facilities. During the last 63 years, the department has made all-round progress and acquired a position among the leading UG departments of Kuvempu University.

The primary objective of the department is to impart quality education in the subject of zoology. Within the broad stream, students are taught varied subjects like Non-Chordates, Chordates, Animal Physiology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Environmental Biology, Animal Biotechnology Applied Zoology, Genetics and Microbiology and the same knowledge paves way for self employment through opportunities in sericulture, aquaculture, apiculture and vermiculture.

The department offers B.Sc. degree with CBZ, CZBc, CZM and CZBt combinations and it possess highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty with teaching experience of more than 15 years. The department has well equipped laboratory with rare collection of specimens maintained in the museum. The curriculum of the department is interlinked with technology and enriched with many scientific instruments handling practical exercise. To provide exposure to academic and research professions, the department organized informative lectures from renowned reputed speakers. Students also get exposure by attending various workshops and research projects under faculty members of the department of Zoology happen to be one of the oldest departments in the college. To make the subject cognitive, we organize many fieldtrips, institutional visits and nature camp to promote the academic and professional skills among the students. The faculties of Zoology are involved in major thrust specialization of Research in including Biodiversity, Ornithology, and Aquaculture etc.
