Physical Education department at Sahyadri Science Collegewas established in 1940. The Sahyadri college campus has got wide play grounds for outdoor games,400 mts Standard Track, indoor game hall and mutt-gym. There is provision for students to play Volleyball, Football, Kabaddi,Kho-Kho, Handball,cricket, athletics, carom, table-tennis etc. in their leisure time. Most of the studentsparticipating the inter collegiate tournament, inter university tournament and all Indiauniversity tournament. We have organized Kuvempu university inter collegiate,inter classes and south zone tournament. The Physical Director encourages the students to take part in sports activities of their interest, train them and support their participation in the inter-collegiate, zonal and higher-level sports competitions. An outdoor sports stadium is being constructed in the college campus at the cost Of Rs. 11.45 crores from grants received from the University and Sports Authority of India (Rs.2.5 crores). Total Area of the Pavilion is 7260.25sq. m and a seating capacity of 40,000.

Functions and Responsibilities
- To maintain a stock of sports goods, and order sports equipment after seeking necessary approvals.
- To arrange venues for sports events.
- To recommend students for permission to participate in the intra or inter collegiate events.
- To ensure that those students who participate in sports events are given attendance as per Kuvempu University rules.
- To maintain discipline in all events happening in and outside the college.
- Maintaining records of sports events attended by students.
